What Is Community Problem Solving?
Community Problem Solving, or CmPS as we will refer to it, is a division of the
Future Problem Solving Program which was founded by Dr. E. Paul Torrance. Students find problems within their area and
work in creative ways to solve them. The showcase of our work is the international conference held in June of each year.
After several levels of preliminary competition thousands of students and volunteers from all around the world gather at the
prestigious event to share what they have accomplished with their annual project. Participating countries include
the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, and this years new additions of Malaysia, Russia, Thailand,
and Sweden. We are proud to announce that three of the nine nations represented in the future problem solving program
are also represented in our schools CmPS team.
West Carter CmPS consists of Foreign Exchange students Vachiraporn
"Mew" Kreewong (Thailand), and Karin Hallgren (Sweden) who will be the sole representatives of the home countries, along with
the Kentucky natives Andy Bledsoe, Erica Hay, Whitney Stapleton, Aaron Richards, Leanna Gilliam, Jackie Thornberry, and Tara
James coached by Mrs. Connie Baker.
